JUDGE: Ms Inger Dahle (Norway)
7 October,2012
Dear Bullmastiff Friends
First of all, it was a great honor to be invited to judge The Bullmastiff Club of Victoria 39th Championship Show. The invitation gave me something nice to look forward to whilst struggling through chemo therapy, radiation and surgery.
In general I found your Bullmastiffs in very good and sound condition. They were all well prepared and trained for showing, which makes the judge's job very easy. I would also like to thank my two stewards for doing an excellent job.
My overall impression is that your Bullmastiff vary a bit in type and that there has been some influence of the American standard. In my opinion the Bullmastiff should be powerfully built and show great strength. It is important to recognize the squareness in all part of the dog; skull, muzzle, body shape (short rectangular). I also prefer a rather large head compared to the body, with a square skull of good height with well-placed rather small ears and with a good broad and deep muzzle. One of my mentors in the dogworld once said to me: Paint the dog blue and tell me which breed it is! It is very important to remember that it is the proportion between the different body parts which makes the breeds differs. Here are my critiques of the placed dogs:
